Pitch A Tent for the Right 2 Survive – June 10th thru 11th

Posted: June 3, 2011 in Uncategorized

There’s quite a buzz on the streets of Portland about the legal camping day that precedes the Grand Floral Parade.  Can you imagine being without housing and being a criminal just for pitching a tent for survival every other day of the year?!  But for just one day, all housed and unhoused people can camp for pleasure.

Come and celebrate good times with R2S as we call attention to the lack of affordable housing, jobs, social programs, shelter beds, and the criminalization of people experiencing houselessness.  Hey, just because we’re poor and conscious, doesn’t mean we won’t have a good time!  Games! Food! Music!  Radical Cheerleaders!  Fun!!!!

Location TBA the day of the event.  If you want to help with set up, meet us outside of Sisters of the Road between 9am and 9:30 on Friday, June 10th.  Otherwise, just give a call to 503-839-9992 or check this blog after 10:30am that day.

Also, other ways to support include:  donate tents and tarps, volunteer to cook a hot meal for Friday night, bring your video cameras, volunteer to be a legal observer, play music or put on a puppet show.  Give us a call or send an email if you’d like to get involved.

Some community members who can’t camp out with us on the streets, are going to Pitch A Tent for the Right 2 Survive in their own back yards!  It’s a great way to show your solidarity.  Don’t forget to take a picture and send it to us, with your words of support, so we can share it with the decision makers at City Hall.  Also, some groups are using it as a fundraising opportunity for R2S.  This is appreciated, but most importantly, we want your support.  Send pictures to r2spdx@gmail.com
